USO tours provided celebrity entertainment to soldiers during World War II. The effort continued during the Vietnam War with such celebrity stars such as the following:

Martha was a popular entertainer and honorary Colonel in the Green Berets. She went to Vietnam each year from 1965 until the end of the war and spent a total of two years touring. During her time in Vietnam she experienced combat actions and was wounded twice. Martha says of women who served in Vietnam, "I spent over two years of my life there, entertaining, nursing, visiting bases, camps and field units all over Vietnam. I saw these dedicated women at their workplaces - the hospitals, staff offices, USO Centers, Red Cross units. I saw what they did and how much they were needed,".
Tours during Vietnam war
While many women held important roles in Vietnam during the war, many other women made contributions on the home front. Activism was not a new activity for women. However, with the growing push for equal rights, women's anti-war efforts were often lumped in with the unpopular idea of feminism. The Women's Strike for Peace was originally organized to protest atmospheric nuclear testing. In 1966 this group protested against the use of napalm, an event that was reported as "four San Jose housewife terrorists were arrested and found guilty of trying to block shipments of napalm,". Another active women's' group during the war was the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom. Members of the American groups participated in all major rallies advocating the end of the war. The WILPF is most famous for the demonstrations conducted "every Tuesday" at the White House.
