Cold War Timeline

Cold War Time lineresearch paper due and don't know how to start it? How about like this?

The Cold War began after the Yalta Conference in February 1945, before the conclusion of World War II. It marked 46-years of military and political division between the former Soviet Union (Russia) and the world's communist nations and the United States and Western allies.

The Cold War

In February 1946, six months after Germany and Japan surrendered, ending the war, Joseph Stalin officially declared that communism was in direct conflict with the democratic movement. Winston Churchill, in turn, delivered his famous "Iron Curtain" speech, accusing Stalin of establishing political and physical borders between Western and Eastern Europe. The result became the formation of the Eastern Bloc. By 1949, the Soviet Union had developed atomic weapons and the Peoples Republic of China was formed as single-party communist nation, a result of the Cold War.

The Events of the Cold War

The 1950s and 1960s were marked by the following events:

During the 1970s and 1980s, the Soviet Union and the United States sparked a propaganda-filled arms race, which, by the end of the '80s, centered on massive amounts of nuclear weapons in both countries.

The Cold War ended with the formation of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the driving force behind the dissolution of the Soviet Union on December 25, 1991.
