The Movement Represents all People

The movement was originally named the Mohajir Qaumi Movement however it was renamed to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in the later 1990s to indicate that it was representative of people of all ethnicities and not just the Mohajir. The Muttahida Qaumi Movement has taken center stage in world news for a number of reasons, primary of which is the recent murder of one of the movement's founding members, Imran Farooq. Although Farooq had not lived in Pakistan for more than 11 years, he was still considered influential and an active senior member of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement. Speculation has it that the murder was related to internal struggles within the MQM and was not the work of an opponent. Despite the murder of Farooq in London in September 2010, and the more recent murder of Muttahida Qaumi Movement activists in Karachi, the MQM has manifested a strong front in its recent move to reaffirm its support for Pakistan's ruling party, the Pakistan People's Party, just days after turning its back on the ruling coalition.
