Influences of Race As It Relates To Your Community

Influences of Race as it Relates to Your Community

When writing a research paper on the influence of race as it relates to your community, you may want to write an autobiographical research paper that analyzes the influences of race as it relates to your community. In the paper, write a first-person account of how human interactions in your community have been racialized. For the community, consider relations within your neighborhood, local government, service groups, clubs, schools, workplace, or any environment of which you are a part.

  1. Do members of your community look like you? In what ways do they look the same or different?
  2. How do leaders within your community treat people who are like you? How do they treat people who are different?
  3. Do your text or manuals contain information by or about people like you?
  4. Do the local media represent people like you?
  5. What are some similarities and differences between you and the people who are in leadership positions in your community?
  6. If you could resolve any inequities within your community, what would you change? How and why?
  7. Which main concepts from the text relate to race? Apply some of these concepts to the project.

  1. The thesis addresses racial issues in your local community
  2. The content is comprehensive and accurate

  4. Three sources are used, and on source is a community member, leader or representative from a local community organization
  5. The paper is written in first-person point of view, with an autobiographical approach
  6. Text concepts are applied to the observations
  7. Assignment questions are answered
  8. The paper includes perspectives from supporting sources

The conclusion is logical, flows from the body of the paper, and reviews the major points. Race, it is something that is talked about but cannot be clearly defined.Though race regards the idea that involves the color of the skin and other physical characteristics that result from the diversities found within the make-up of humans as a species, socially the word is more complicated, linked to ethnicities and histories of the people who live within a particular place and area.Race is this form is a difficult thing to explain and even more difficult to quantify. The meaning behind the word is culturally derived, the lines on which race varies greatly from nation to nation.

Race and its importance are often based on the culture a person belongs to and the history and social make-up of that culture. Within the United States, the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s was supposed to make race a non-issue when it came to communities but instead or in spite of, many communities are deeply affected by race. For those communities whom want to make race a non-issue and try to act like the differences do not exist, it actually can cause more issues and strife than embracing the differences in the first place.

Race has long been part of the history of the world. The physical differences amongst people including the color of the skin and the formation of bones can not be denied.Yet, race has a completely different side as well. Race is also about ethnicity and ethnic identity. The Jewish population is considered a race not for the color of their skin, most being white, but instead for the ideals and traditions which held the people together. Race is about where someone comes from and how they relate to their environment, their society, and outside influences. Unfortunately, race has been used in the past to dehumanize a particular culture because they were had dissimilar ideas and ways. Colonization by the Europeans, introduced these people to many different races, foreign in both looks and idea. It was race, according to the European which separated them from those they considered immoral, inferior, and heathen. The white race was considered to be superior to the others. This created a dynamic leading to a rationalization of slavery of inferior races including African American.Differences amongst the European neighbors also lead them to form their own ideas about race, especially those ideas that race somehow determined a person's intellect and moral behavior. This concept proves to be completely wrong and instead the physical differences between the races were part of evolutionary survival techniques.
