Afro-American Studies Still Needed
Although Afro-American studies ganed popularity in the 1960s and 1970s, few departments received substantial funding from colleges. Over the past 30 years, many Afro-American studies departments have shriveled considerably, partly because of poor funding. Some critics also believe that the prevalence of Afro-American studies dwindled as African-Americans secured equal rights and treatment by the law. This perspective, however, denies the racial disparities still obvious in many American cities.
