In the Bible, the book of Esther does not have a specific author named as the one who wrote it. There are three main sections or stories in the book of Esther:
- Esther replaces Vashti
- Mordecai overcomes Hama
- Israel survives Haman's attempt to destroy them
The story of Esther has been compared to that of the story of Joseph as told in Genesis, the first book of the Bible primarily because both of the stories share the similarities where foreign monarchs are involved who try to control the destiny of the Jews in addition to highlighting how brave the Israelites were in providing the means for the salvation of their people and nation.
Book of Esther
In the Book of Esther, it is evident that the author wanted to highlight how divine intervention of God works specifically as it applies to the Israelites. This book has a record of the Feast of Purim and commemorates what the Jews indicate is the deliverance of the Jewish nation by God using Esther. A reoccurring theme of celebration and feasting is touted in the Book of Esther as there were ten banquets recorded. To this day, the Feast of Purim is preserved and celebrated. In the book of Esther, it is clear that there is an ongoing division between the Jews and the Amalakites, dating back to the Book of Exodus. Esther went up against the King and proved to be a worthy opponent as Esther was more concerned with saving her people no matter what it would take to do so.
