Franklin Delano Roosevelt

Franklin Delano Roosevelt

Franklin Delano Roosevelt research paper due and don't know how to start it? How about like this?

The following are notable biographical facts on FDR's early years:

  • Roosevelt was born in 1882 in Hyde Park, New York.
  • Roosevelt's father managed interests in mining and transportation.
  • Roosevelt went on to attend Harvard University and Columbia Law School.
  • In 1910 Roosevelt won election into the New York State senate.

In 1912 it appeared as though Roosevelt's political career might be lost due to his opposition to what was known as the Tammany Democratic political machine. As Roosevelt stood up to the powers of Tammany he peaked the interest of a newspaperman, Louis Howe. With Howe on his side Roosevelt would take a path that would set a precedent for future politicians. Howe taught Roosevelt how to be a "politician's politician." Roosevelt and Howe used such tactics as to take out newspaper advertisements and even the use of direct mail advertising, which was revolutionary at the time.

Roosevelt as Assistant Secretary to the Navy

As Roosevelt continued his political journey, President Wilson appointed him Assistant Secretary to the Navy, and in 1920 he was the democratic nominee for Vice President. Nevertheless, it was in 1921, that Roosevelt had to deal with his toughest battle. At the age of 39 Roosevelt was stricken with poliomyelitis. With this illness Roosevelt would show his courage and determination through his fight to regain the use of his legs. In 1928, Roosevelt became Governor of New York, where he began to make an impact on the poor economy.

Roosevelt Gave Hope

Throughout Roosevelt's campaign for the presidency he gave the public a sense of encouragement and hope. Roosevelt campaigned with a self-confidence that would reach out to his audiences. He always appeared to be optimistic and his big smile made millions believe that he genuinely cared about them. It seemed as though Roosevelt had one clear premise throughout the election: that the nation was in trouble and it was the responsibility of government to do something about it.
