Southern Gothic Stands Alone

Southern Gothic is almost a stand-alone genre, dealing with incest, sexual perversion, secrets hidden from the light of day, and so on; examples are the novels of Faulkner and the plays of Tennessee Williams. Some Gothic works deal more with horror: Lovecraft's tales of creeping monstrosities from ancient times, the Mummy movies and the modern films of Carpenter.
