Compare and/or contrast an aspect(s) of Esperanza's coming of age in The House on Mango Street with Pai's coming of age in the film Whale Rider, taking into account the kind of worlds they both live in, their desires and forming, identities, as well as what is expected of them as female members of their respective societies. You might also discuss, or even focus on how each of them defies these expectations. But outside they can't be seen talking to girls. Carlos and Kiki are each other's best friendnot ours. This passage from the vignette " Boys and Girls" perhaps a foreshadowing of Esperanza's eventual defiance of this patriarchy the readers first hint about her forming identity.
