Research Papers on GMO Health Risks
Genetically modified organisms have been in the news often in the past decade due to the increase of genetically modified foods and crops. Paper Masters can write science research papers for you on GMO and the health risks.
In the quest to feed an ever-expanding human population, food scientists have invented genetically modified food (GMO). GMO foods have had their DNA genetically modified through genetic engineering. However, there are many who believe that GMO foods pose serious health risks. While many scientists state that there are no increased health risks, opponents claim that several issues, especially the introduction of allergens, pose harm to humans.
In 1999, scientist Arpad Pusztai claimed that rats fed GMO potatoes developed precancerous cell growth in their digestive tracts. Pustzai’s findings continue to be promulgated on the Internet, despite controversy arising from claims that there was misconduct in his research. Giles-Eric Seralini published three studies, in 2007, 2009, and 2011, which indicated the following were damaged in lab rats that were fed GMO foods:
- Heart damage
Again, criticism dogged his research findings.
In 2011, Scientific American published a report stating that broad scientific support indicates that there are little or no health risks associated with eating GMO foods. However, some concerns regarding allergies continue. For example, if a person has a nut allergy, are they at risk from a GMO food modified with nut genes? Another lingering concern is the possibility of horizontal gene transfer, such as when DNA from a GMO food becomes integrated into the person or animal eating that food.
