National Health Education Standards

National Health Education Standards

National Health Education Standards research paper due and don't know how to start it? How about like this?

A research paper on National Health Education Standards may begin: Introducing the current National Health Education Standards (NHES), the Joint Committee on Health Education Standards cites economic competitiveness as a major reason why health should be taught in both primary and secondary schools. Health education strategy provides students with the knowledge and the skills to be healthy by avoiding alcohol, tobacco and drugs, keeping fit and eating better, for examples, raising their productivity as students and lowering the cost to educate them.

The last four standards depart from science and enter the realm of civics. Their goals are to enable students 4) to analyze the influence of culture, media, technology, etc., on health, 5) to communicate with others to enhance health 6) to set goals and make decisions to enhance health and 7) to advocate for personal, family and community health.

According to the NHES, health programs should not only produce citizens who are productive and responsible, but critical thinkers and communicators who can apply "democratic and organizational principles in collaboration with others" in the cause of health and should be included in our teaching models.

National Healthcare Standards and the Healthcare System

With all the problems with the healthcare system and the increasing health threats from environmental sources, such skills should come in hand and should be taught in our schools in America.

The need for the National Health Education Standards (NHES) was discovered as educators, families and other branches of society recognized the fro students to maintain and adopt healthy behaviors. For example, society's construction of health has been demonstrated to change according to the time period and cultural practices. especially as schools in America have become Microcosms. In some cases, conceptions of health may be tied to opinions concerning beauty and virility. For example, southern belles would frequently stay out of the sun and use powder to appear pale in order to be attractive. Such a practice would be frowned upon in many parts of the U.S. today, where the acquisition of a flattering tan can be the desired beauty look. Such a pale individual may appear sickly in comparison. Weight has also been tied to social preoccupations of beauty: today women are pushed to be thin by media images of models and starlets, whereas in many non-Western cultures, a fuller sized woman is believed to show a family's wealth and her potential for child- bearing.

Students and National Health Education Standards

The health policies of the NHES are tied to many aspects of social progress and should be discussed in your research paper. Health policies are often the result of the interactions between health determinants and overall public health. For example, if public health is high, health policies might dwindle or take the time to deal with tangential issues such as improving water quality or public sanitation efforts. However, at the time of a serious outbreak or contamination, health policies will focus on dealing with the spread of pathogens and minimizing the impact of the particular illness. This understanding of health policy makes the formulation of governmental action largely reactionary. Policy makers must evaluate the health of their constituents and formulate policies accordingly. Thus, in 2007, the following health standards were implemented as the National Health Education Standards:

  1. Students will comprehend concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention to enhance health.

  2. Students will analyze the influence of family, peers, culture, media, technology, and other factors on health behaviors.

  3. Students will demonstrate the ability to access valid information and products and services to enhance health.

  4. Students will demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health and avoid or reduce health risks.

  5. Students will demonstrate the ability to use decision-making skills to enhance health.

  6. Students will demonstrate the ability to use goal-setting skills to enhance health.

  7. Students will demonstrate the ability to practice health-enhancing behaviors and avoid or reduce health risks.

  8. Students will demonstrate the ability to advocate for personal, family, and community health.

It is the hope that the NHES will shift with the passage of time and the status of public health. Traditional conceptions of health depended largely upon biological determinants of health; however, studies have observed relationships between health and social determinants as well, such as educational standards. Health care policies have evolved to understand that health is more than simply biology and that health risks and problems may develop if intervention is not implemented at an early age.
